Anti-racism in Public Education

There is abundant scholarly literature and media coverage on anti-black racism against children and youth in the Canadian education system.

After numerous complaints from community members around the province about racist incidents perpertuated at public schools by both teachers and students, SNIWWOC is working on making it mandatory for teachers to receive anti-racism training.

The Province of Ontario has an anti-black racism strategy, BC does not. The City of Toronto also has an anti-black racism action plan. Although the Greater Victoria School District has a discrimination policy, teachers are not required to receive any sort of training about racial discrimination. This needs to change!
